1950’s Men’s shorts

My final project for my 1st year at uni was to make a pair of 1950’s men’s shorts from a 1950’s reverse pleat trousers drafted pattern for a chosen model and then adapted into shorts.

I am really pleased with the fit of the garment and the accuracy of the 1950’s pattern fitting on the modern body. The length sits just above the knee and is accurate to Bermuda shorts as shown below in the pattern.

This pattern was inspiration for the chosen fabric for the shorts as it gave me knowledge of suitable colours from the 50s and then I chose a wool fabric in a royal blue. I really enjoyed working with a different fabric, edges had to be overlocked due to fraying of the raw edges.

The photographs underneath show the front of the shorts with and without the hands in the side seam pockets. The third image shows the crotch  and the buttons. There are five buttons that are hidden under the upper fly. I chose black buttons as they complement the blue of the fabric nicely and looks professional.
